Glossary of Terms used at Lingo Live
Goal
A concrete outcome that the coachee would like to achieve at work that is aligned with the Business Impact Goal and Behavior Change Goal of their coaching program.
Examples
- Understand and apply knowledge of team member’s strengths and growth goals in order to effectively plan, delegate, and execute
- Deliver a 15 minute presentation to your colleagues
Related Tasks
Real workplace activities that the coachee either performs on-the-job or simulates in their sessions. Related Tasks are incremental steps toward achieving a Goal. They will likely be closely tied to the program’s Behavior Change Goal and Behavior Change Success Metrics. It passes the “video test” meaning it is something that can be observed in action rather than a vague aspiration that leaves success undefined.
Examples
- Create individual development plans with each member of your team.
- Practice your presentation in the mirror
Related Skills
Skills from the Lingo Live Skills Catalog that have been selected for this coachee’s program. See the program information for details. These skills are necessary or helpful to develop in order to achieve the coachee’s Goal.
Active
Goals and Related Tasks are considered “active” from the time they are created to the time they are “achieved”, or “deprioritized.”
Deprioritized
When a Goal, Related Task or Related Skill is marked “deprioritized” The coach and coachee have decided not to pursue it for the time being either because it is no longer relevant or other Goals, Related Tasks or Related Skills are more important.
Achieved
Goals and Related Tasks are considered “achieved” when the coachee has performed the tasks or implemented the skills within the context of their goal, and the coach and coachee agree that the desired outcomes have been achieved. Ideally, success is as objective and measurable as possible.
Example
The coachee’s direct reports have all completed and discussed an individual development plan and will be committed to working toward these goals during their coaching program.
Deprioritized
Goals, Related Tasks, and Related Skills are considered “dropped” when the coach or coachee decides not to work on them anymore and not to return to them before the end of the coaching experience.
Example
The coachee drops their goal of discussing career development with their direct reports because their company is acquired and additional change management skills become an immediate priority
*Deleting a Goal/Related Task/Related Skill
A Goal, Related Task or Related Skill may be deleted and treated as a user error, as opposed to when they are deprioritized, which is treated as an intentional decision.
